Learning the Ropes of Being a Self-Employed Web Site Owner

Making money from the comfort of your own home is an attractive idea to the vast majority of people I have conversed with. Out of all those people I would venture to say that 15% of them had what it takes to be able to lay down their day jobs and succeed on the web. Being your own boss is not quite as simple as one might believe.
There are many traits that a person should possess if they are likely to be effective at making money on the internet. If you don't possess these traits then you will have to discipline yourself or end up forever swimming in the shallow end of the pool.
Here are some of the traits that I consider to be most important:
1. Be Optimistic - If you cop a negative attitude then you are headed on a one way road to disaster. You must remain positive no matter what obstacle jumps into your path. Affiliate marketing is a business of sales. You cannot expect everything to go smoothly from one month to the next. For example, you might make $3,000.00 in may then turn around and make $500.00 in June. In the end it all evens out.
2. Hard Worker - There are a lot of scams out there that promise you will make $10,000.00 a month working only an hour a day. 99.9% of these are bologna. I have never, in 9 years of webmastering, found a get rich quick scheme that works. Be prepared to work hard because this
is a job that requires a lot of hard work.
3. Discipline - Believe me when I say that it is very easy to slack on your schedule when you are working on your own. You must sometimes force yourself to do the work when you would rather be doing just about anything else. If you are having trouble getting enough hours a good way to solve this is to put yourself on a schedule so that you know when you are supposed to be working and when it's time to play.
4. Learning and Training - If you love to learn new things then you might have just found the career meant for you! The internet is constantly evolving so if you stop learning then you soon stop growing. When this happens you will be left in the dust with little income left. Personally, I spend an hour or so everyday reading forums or articles. This keeps me on top of things and makes learning less painful than if I were to spend 8 hours at a time studying.
5. Determined - Are you a go getter? Is nothing going to stand in your way? Being determined is possibly the single most important trait of them all. I know a big handful of people that were significantly less skilled or intelligent than very capable people who made it big because they wanted it.
Of course, there are many other traits that are important to have. If you have these traits I think you are a prime candidate to make great money someday and take vacations whenever you want. Just be determined and never give up!
